A Productive Holiday Weekend

For those outside the US and don’t know, this past weekend was a fairly large holiday for most people here. Thanksgiving was Thursday, and in homage to the capitalism that is the hallmark of our great country the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) is the busiest shopping day of the year here in the US with crazy-good sales on just about everything, everywhere.

Being a firm believer in work/life balance, I did a couple pretty cool things over my holiday break for both for myself and Secure Delivery.

Work

I configured our web server and installed eSupport from Kayako to replace the current Secure Delivery trouble ticket / support forum system we are using now.

I worked several hours to set up eSupport email piping, SLA’s, and other advanced support features for inclusion on the publish to live. eSupport will allow us to have FAQs, Trouble Shooters, support tickets by both the web interface and email, and about eleventy-billion other features that our old trouble ticket system did not.

Life

On Black Friday I got up at 4:00 AM and went to the local Sears dealer in the town I live. I waited in line for 20 minutes for the place to open, walked in, bought a big ass 46″ LCD TV, and was back home in bed before 5:30AM. Normally I don’t go out of the house on the day after thanksgiving- to give you an idea of how crazy it is at 4:30AM it was like rush hour with people flying around town trying to queue up for the best deals before the stores opened.

Anyway, I got out of bed this time to save about 50% on a new TV. Worth it I think, since I was back in bed before the sun came up and I got the one and only TV they had at that price for about $900 off.

I think for the next week or so to further improve my work/life balance I’ll be sitting on my couch, watching my new big ass TV and working on SD from the laptop while watching HD football and Pay-Per-View movies :)
